Sport Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada (SDRCC)

The Challenge

The Government of Canada wanted to establish an independent mechanism for resolving sports disputes in Canadian sport.

Our Contribution

LBB’s legal team participated in the feasibility studies that led to the creation of the SDRCC, as well as in the development of the Federal Physical Activity and Sport Act and the Code of Arbitration for Sport, in the recruitment and training of arbitrators and mediators, and in the operational startup of the SDRCC. Benoit Girardin was the Chief Executive Officer of the SDRCC until 2006 and as such, managed more than 300 legal and sports related disputes and cases.

The Results

The SDRCC is recognized worldwide as a best in class institutional for the resolution of sports disputes.
